Ethics and Morals

Ethics and morals, yes they play an important role in the ideologies and beliefs in Witchcraft, Wicca and the use of magic as well.  However, here is another great example of how Witchcraft and Wicca are NOT one and the same.  I could sum this up by saying Wiccan’s must adhere to the Wiccan Rede and well, Witches of more Traditional Witchcraft, they can and will do as they choose, no laws governing them!  However, it is not quiet all that simple.

I am going to address Witchcraft and magic user ethics and morals first. The reality is, this is totally up to the individual. As a Trad Witch, I am a pretty firm believer that, for the most, what I send out, dish out, I get back. If I do good, I get good back, if I do bane, I get bane back. My choices to do good or bane, in magic or ritual or whatever, are mine to make as long as I am willing to take responsibility.  That is the key to Witchcraft ethics and morals, and about the only thing many of us do see eye to eye on, is our willingness to take responsibility for our actions. Remember I said magic is nothing more than the manipulation of energies. Well, if you look at physics, there are some basic laws when dealing with energy. However there are no magic police that are going to say you can and cannot do this or that on an ethical level or moral level when it comes to Witchcraft or ceremonial magic users.

As for Wicca, there tends to be little wiggle room since they adhere to the Wiccan Rede of “Harm None”. I tell you, kind of hard to do! I am a mother, and if someone harms any of my children, no matter how old they get, do NOT think I am more than willing to HARM SOMEONE, because I am and will.  I will talk a little more about this Wiccan Rede in a moment.

The other belief that Wiccans tend to believe in, is the Law of Three, most kind of misconstrue this belief. What goes around comes around except in this case it comes and goes around three times more than it started out.  Truth, different Wiccans see this in different ways. Some Wiccans believe that the law of three means that what you send out you get back exponentially that what you send out you get back three times stronger.  Others believe that what you  send out you get back in three different ways.  No matter, you will discover that many Wiccans tend to err on the side of caution.

Karma has become an accepted belief of Wicca for the most as well. Even though Karma is an Eastern belief where there are reasons for things that happen to people, that we have almost a chain of action.  I guess, in a way, I do believe that things happen for a reason, a lesson even maybe.  I only believe this way because I have been around for quite a few years now and have seen things that I did not understand at the time happen that later, made perfect sense in how other things turned out.

The truth about Ethics and morals, in the end only you can make the decisions on what is right and what is wrong. However, I want you to know that from personal experiences of what over thirty years of practice and study have taught me is that there is no clear cut black and white when it comes to personal beliefs, religion or magic. But there is a whole lot of gray area; you will have to find your own personal truth.

I have very strong feelings on the Wiccan Rede, check my blog soon for my thoughts on the Wiccan Rede and the abuse of it.

I am working, as time allows, to get this site back to the former glory it was... might never happen honestly, 16 years of info! :(
